Accton Technology Corporation (Public, TPE:2345) (Traditional Chinese:智邦科技) is a company in Taiwan that principally engages in the research, development, manufacture and distribution of Ethernet switches, wireless local area network (WLAN) products and broadband access products. The Company provides Ethernet switches, high speed Ethernet cards, high speed data center switches, multilayer switches, power over Ethernet switches, active Ethernet mobile backhaul gateways, wireless switches, carrier-class access network products, enterprise-grade 802.11n dual-band multi-radio wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) access points, Wi-Fi phones, carrier-grade wireless outdoor bridges, Wi-Fi modules and integrated service gateways, among others. During the year ended December 31, 2009, the Company obtained approximately 69% and 14% of its total revenue from switches and WLAN products, respectively.
The Australian Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) holds the patent to a component of the 802.11n standard. This component is also part of 802.11a and 802.11g. The IEEE requested from the CSIRO a Letter of Assurance (LoA) that no lawsuits would be filed for anyone implementing the standard. In September 2007, CSIRO responded that they would not be able to comply with this request since litigation was involved.[1]
In April 2009, it was revealed that CSIRO reached a settlement with 14 companies including Accton plus other major technology companies —Hewlett-Packard, Asus, Intel, Dell, Toshiba, Netgear, D-Link, Belkin, SMC, 3Com, Buffalo Technology, Microsoft, and Nintendo— on the condition that CSIRO did not broadcast the resolution.[2][3][4]
